Day Fifteen
Today was just great weather, low 80’s and sunny with minimal humidity. It was spent on a straight as an arrow scenic by way, Route 3 through the middle of Iowa. Occasionally I’d hop off for a 10 mile stint on a dirt road to break up the monotony.
Lunch was at a true small town diner, friendly staff but sadly I was one of two customers there at 12:30pm. With the freeway and McDonald’s just 20 miles away these places are decreasing in number. There a thousand or more others just like it. If you are traveling cross country I’d really encourage spending an extra hour to hop off the freeway and stop in a small town for a meal or two.
Finished the day up by plotting out the last few days of my trip, after two weeks away I’m pretty eager to sleep in my own bed so gonna hammer on the freeway for a couple days to the Catskills, then enjoy the final 300 miles from there back to Boston via some familiar side roads.
